Mohanlal - Most Popular Keralite 2011 Survey By Deccan Chronicle.

The youth of Kerala may prefer oldies to make way for the younger lot in politics, but in films they still dote on two middle-aged superstars — Mohanlal and Mammootty.

Mohanlal - 29%
Mammootty - 23%
Prithviraj - 20%
Dileep - 5%
Jayaram - 4%
Asif Ali - 2%
Kunchacko, Vineeth Srinivasan etc - 1%

These two stars, who have been ruling the roost from the mid-1980s are the heartthrobs of the new generation too, according to the Deccan Chronicle C-fore survey conducted among youth aged from 18 to 25.

And among the two ‘Big Ms,’ Mohanlal has an edge over Mammootty with 29 per cent of the youth terming him the most popular actor. Mammootty comes next with 23 per cent plumping for him.
Among Mohanlal fans, the majority are males (38 percent) and females constitute only a moderate chunk (19 per cent) in comparison.

At the same time, adorers of Mammootty are almost equally matched in gender with males comprising 24 per cent and females 22 percent. This jells with a popular survey held two years ago in which women voted Mammootty as the sexiest star of Kerala.

Among the young crowd, only Prithviraj is able to more or less match the two ageing superstars with 20 per cent of the respondents cheering for him. Of this, only 10 per cent are men and 30 per cent are women, understandably so.

The middle-level actors get ‘moderate’ approval with 5 per cent endorsing Dileep and four per cent choosing Jayaram.

The outspoken Thilakan, who took out a fight with the superstars last year, also gets the approval of five per cent.

Interestingly, the new crop of actors — Kunjacko Boban, Jayasurya, Kailash, Ajmal Ameer and Vineeth Sreenivasan — get lukewarm response from the youth. Only one per cent of respondents felt enthusiastic about them. Asif Ali is slightly better at two per cent but that is no consolation.

“The Kerala youth identify with younger stars of Bollywood and not those of Malayalam films,” said the well-known film critic, Mr C.S. Venkiteswaran.

“They don’t think the younger stars of Kerala are hep enough.”

Mr Venkiteswaran also felt that the popularity of Mammootty and Mohanlal among the youth had more to do with their absolute dominance of television which created the ambience for film viewing. “The young actors are not getting the space they deserve because of this,” he said.

Priyadarshan with Amal Neerad-Mohanlal movie 'Dhanushkodi'

First of all, everyone should understand that this latest news hearing from the Malayalam film industry is not at all a confirmed one, it may just be a rumoured one. This new sensational news tells us that one of the most stylish director in Mollywood, Amal Neerad is all set to do a new Malayalam film, Dhanushkodi with our Universal star Mohanlal in the lead.

Earlier in 1988, Priyadarshan has started shooting for a Malayalam film with this title, under the script of T Damodaran featuring Mohanlal and 'Vandanam' fame Girija Shettar in the lead, but due to some unknown issues it got shelved and now Priyadarshan had decided to restart his old project with some changes that suits current generation viewers.

Even though, this Malayalam movie Dhanushkodi was a dream project of Priyadarshan, this time around he won't direct it, but will do only the scripting. Plan for the restart of this once shelved project kick started at the set of new Mohanlal movie Arabiyum Ottakavum P madhavan Nairum, being directed by Priyadarshan.

As per the reports, this new Mohanlal movie Dhanushkodi is all set to start by the next year, once Mohanlal completes his current commitments and will surely be one of the hugely anticipated film for the year 2012. It's also hearing that this new film may have Dhanushkodi, Srilanka and Rameshwaram as it's location.

Waiting for the confirmed news about this new Mohanlal-Priyadarshan-Amal Neerad movie...

Record price for ‘Christian Brothers’

Malayalam television channels are in no mood to lose a big film because of price. Films starring the super stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal fetch a huge price considering the size of the territories.

The highest price paid for the television rights of a movie so far was 2.86 crores. That was for Mohanlal starrer T20 paid by Surya TV. Now another Mohanlal film has broken that record and set a new record.

Asianet has bought the television rights of ‘Christian Brothers’ for a whopping 3 crores and this has set a new bench mark in Malayalam satellite television.

It is interesting to note here that both the record breaking films are Mohanlal films directed by Joshy.

Manju Warrier, Samyuktha, back in a Mammotty film

This has been the question that had been aired in most of the interviews with the  filmy celebrities.Dileep and Biju menon would have answered it for at least a hundred times in the last five years.Yes,  This is also a news that Malayalees, all around the world, had been awaiting for a long time.
You have picked it right. The favourite ever green heroines of Mollywod, Manju Warrier and Samyuktha varma who were resting in their roles of housewives, away from filmdom, will be back on screen in a short while.  They will be playing the heroines in their comeback movie to none other than Megastar Mammootty. What to hear more? This will be a project to be  directed by Laljose. And Dileep will be the producer of the project under the banner of his own Grand productions.Add to that , Dileep and Biju Menon will also appear in other important roles in the movie.....Altogether this project of surprises is going to be a family affair, that will take off in a short while.
Mamootty had never appeared with these two talented heroines in any of their films and the megastar has shared this  feeling with Dileep and Bijumenon ,many times. Both these actors were recently seen together endorsing the Kavya Madhavan movie 'Ghaddhama'.  It seems that it was all these talks which finally ended up in a movie project. It is heard that laljose will use the time that he has got after the wrapping of the  movie 'Cousins' with Mohanlal and Prithviraj, for the preproduction works of this new project. We were in a hurry to keep you updated  with those wonderful developments and so watch this space for  details about the cast and crew, that will be out soon.
Also pray to Almighty for making  this project a reality, than becoming another one on paper that may get shelved after some reports. And if it happens, this is sure to be one movie that will be eagerly watched out for its great performances for all lead stars, which may make the stars and the Mollywood  proud like never before.

Suresh Gopi visits Mammootty at Cochin

  • Cochin, Mar.25 (NR): Suresh Gopi paid a visit to Mammootty's house at Cochin the other day, and laid to rest a cold war that has rumouredly existed between the two actors.

Shaji Kailas and Renji Panicker were also with Suresh when he visited Mammootty. Mammootty coridally welcomed Suresh Gopi and the two reportedly had a conversation for a long time.

The differences of opinion between the two actors had become the talk of the industry when Suresh Gopi refused the role in 'Pazhassi Raja', which was later donned by Sarath Kumar. Mammootty and Suresh Gopi were last seen together in 'Twenty Twenty'.

Now the industry is looking forward to see if Suresh Gopi's visit would result in 'The King and the Commissioner' being revived. The film that would bring the characters of Joseph Alex IAS and Bharath Chandran IPS together in a film is expected to set the screens ablaze.

Ranjith and Mohanlal together again

Ace director Ranjith and Mohanlal seems to have settled whatever differences of opinion they have had.

The two extremely talented men are coming together for a movie after a long while, in which Mohanlal would play a Christian character.

The film would be based on a short story by the name of 'Leela', written by Unni R. Ranjith himself would script the film.

Mohanlal would play a man with strange sexual fantasies in the film. No doubt, this would be another landmark in the actor's eventful career.

August 15 is disappointing!

Director Shaji Kailas has taken the character of the likeable cop Perumal from the 1988 film August 1 (directed by Siby Malayil) and has made the thriller, August 15.
While the earlier film (inspired from the 1973 movie The Day of the Jackal) was full of lively and powerful characters, including a tough looking professional killer played by Captain Raju, the new version is a letdown, without a credible storyline or a worthy script.
A feel of the earlier movie is intentionally maintained all along, but it turns out to be a meek looking misadventure.
Chief Minister Vasudevan (Nedumudi Venu) is in a critical condition in the hospital following a stroke and the top brass of the police is shocked to learn that actually he had been poisoned by someone.
The search for the culprit begins soon and the investigation is entrusted with Perumal (Mammootty). The killer and the main persons who plot against the chief minister are revealed pretty early and then, it is the investigation process that should be a gripping one. Sadly, it doesn’t happen so and the unraveling of the mystery is a boring affair here.
With an old narrative style, the film appears to be a never ending affair for the viewers, though the length is about two and a half hours. S N Swami’s script is too old fashioned and is based on a rather flimsy plot. The visuals by Pradeep Nair are okay.
In a role where his heroism is celebrated in virtually every frame, Mammootty looks handsome and has done the role in a devoted way. But all the efforts are not enough to salvage a poorly written film. Of course, there is enough for the gallery, as he takes on even the fiery criminals all alone, in style with his sunglasses intact and often without a gun!
Meghna Raj and Swetha Menon, the female leads as per the posters, have nothing much to do. Lalu Alex, as a silly ADGP, does manage to tickle the funny bone at times. Now, it is certainly not fair to compare a character in a film with one in the earlier version, but the professional killer played by Siddique is nowhere near the one made famous by Captain Raju.
You’ve to admit it,August 15 which is meant to be a thriller, fails to do so. Even if you are a hardcore fan of Mammootty, it won’t entertain you much. Watch it at your own risk!
Verdict: Disappointing
